I’ll never cease to be impressed by how you can recall so much from a sketch – just looking at this sketch from 2010 immediately brought back the moment. From a cafe’ near a Hongkou station (Shanghai), I saw a father and son moving through the rain. The father had given up his umbrella to his son, and as the boy jumped happily to keep up, the father hunched into the cold. It was touching, ordinary, and thanks to that sketchbook, never forgotten.
